This plant is also known in Egypt and Mexico where it is called flor de Jamaica.
Karkade, or bissap, is the beverage prepared from the flowers of this hibiscus with red flowers.
Application: A red syrup is obtained from the dried flowers brought to boil 5 minutes (a small handful of flowers with a little water and sugar). This syrup strongly scented of fresh water which poured. It is the national drink of Senegal and Burkina Faso, where this plant is grown to the edge of the desert. You can also use flowers in infusion in by simply putting some in very hot water. Sometimes adding mint leaves.
