Cactus is the common name for plants of the Cactaceae family. They are also called cacti. These are almost all Succulents or Succulents, i.e. plants xerophytes that store in their tissues 'juice' reserves to face long periods of drought.
Do not confuse cactus and succulent plant: all Succulents are not cacti. These are families of plants that have adopted the same methods to combat the periods of drought, such as the Asclepiadaceae and Crassulaceae. Some plants of these other families, convergence of forms of species subject to the same constraints, strongly resemble cacti. This is the case for example of euphorbias cactiformes as Euphorbia canariensis.
