Amphetamine (Inn) is a sympathomimetic effects anorexiant and psychoanaleptic substance. It is used as an appetite suppressant, stimulant of the central nervous system and for the treatment of hyperactivity in children. In the West, amphetamine is considered a narcotic, known as speed.
The name "amphetamine" comes from one of its chemical names: a-methyl-phenylethanamine (hence a-m-phe-eth-amine = amphetamine).
