Sesame oil (Sesamum indicume) is used for therapeutic purposes for thousands of years. It is mentioned in the Vedas as excellent for human beings. Naturally antibacterial, it acts against common pathogens of skin, such as Staphylococcus and Streptococcus; but also fungal infections, such as the foot of the athlete. It is also antiviral and contains anti inflammatory agents.
Its use is intensive in India and serves as a remedy for clogged arteries. In recent studies conducted in the Netherlands by Ayurvedic physicians, the oil has been used in the treatment of multiple chronic processes of certain diseases, including hepatitis, diabetes and migraines. In vitro sesame oil prevented the growth of Malignant Melanoma (skin cancer): PROSTAGLANDIN LEUKATRINES and essential FATTY acids. It also prevented the replica of colon cancer cells.
